The HOPER research project is dedicated to advancing oncological, palliative, and elderly care through a holistic approach that prioritizes human well-being.
This international collaboration started in 2024 between the Department of Health Sciences at University West in Sweden, along with two leading nursing institutes in Morocco: the High Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques in Fez, and the High Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques in Tetouan.
Moral Distress
among Healthcare Staff
This subproject focuses on exploring moral distress, sense of coherence, and well-being among healthcare professionals working in oncology, palliative, and elderly care settings in Sweden and Morocco. Moral distress arises when caregivers face ethical dilemmas that conflict with their values, potentially compromising the quality of care and leading to increased burnout and intent to leave the profession. This study aims to provide valuable insights into these challenges and support improvements in healthcare environments.
Complementary Methods
in Clinical Care
This project investigates the use of complementary methods, such as acupuncture, mindfulness, and yoga, within oncology, palliative, and elderly care. Complementary therapies are gaining popularity for their role in enhancing patients’ well-being alongside conventional treatments. This subproject includes a comprehensive literature review of existing research, followed by an empirical survey examining the prevalence of these therapies in clinical practice. The findings aim to inform best practices for integrating complementary therapies into patient care, with a focus on improving symptom management, reducing stress, and enhancing overall quality of life.
A Collaborative and Integrative Approach
HOPER seeks to establish collaborative links between research groups internationally. By fostering partnerships and promoting integrative care models, HOPER aims to set new standards in holistic patient care.
This research initiative also offers opportunities for specialized training in areas such as evidence-based acupuncture and senior yoga.
